HMRC to transfer tax refunds direct to customer accounts

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has confirmed they will no longer be sending out cheques for tax rebates for their personal tax account customers, but they will instead transfer any rebates direct to their customer's bank accounts. This will save time – tax refunds will take three to five days to arrive electronically, rather than the standard two week wait for a cheque through the post – and give customers "control of their tax affairs allowing them to claim any money owed to them immediately," says Ruth Owen, director general of customer service at HMRC.

If you feel you are due a refund or have any concerns relating to your tax affairs, please contact Alan Ford or your usual Beavis Morgan Partner. Our tax specialists, some of whom are former HMRC Inspector of Taxes themselves, are well versed in dealing with all types of tax issues. We are also readily available to oversee HMRC disputes on your behalf, as well as to represent clients in appeal proceedings before the Tax Tribunal.
